It is a common error and mistake for patients who have had orthodontic treatment not to wear retainers after a certain amount of time. At Dentality, we advise patients that retainers must be worn for life so as to prevent the teeth from moving back to their original crooked position. This process is known as relapse.
There are two types of retainers available both of which have advantages and disadvantages. The first type is a fixed retainer which involves having a wire bonded to the back of your front teeth. The second type is a removable retainer which you wear to bed every night.
If you have had orthodontic treatment and have lost or damaged your retainers, it is very important that you have another set made.
